    This is different from other words for "if". Other "if" words talk about actions or wishes. This word is always about a specific thing already mentioned.

    Don't use this when something happens naturally. For example, you can't say "If it becomes spring, flowers bloom" using なら. Flowers bloom naturally in spring.

    Use this when you want to talk about something someone just said. It helps you respond to them. You use their words to start your own sentence.

    〜たら

    This is like saying "If I do this..." but you don't finish the sentence. You want the other person to think about what happens next.

    More formal alternatives(2)

    〜りゃ

    This is a very casual way to say "if." It is a shorter version of 〜れば.

    〜きゃ

    This is a short way to say you "have to" do something. It is like saying "gotta" in English.

    〜だ / 〜だった

    This means 'is' or 'was'. It is the casual way to say 〜です and 〜でした.
