This word is like a special gift. You usually wrap it up nicely. You add 'です' or 'ですか' to be polite. Or you use 'でいらっしゃいます' to show even more respect. Using just 'だ' is like giving an unwrapped gift. It can seem rude.

This word is very polite. You use it for someone you respect. You do not use it for yourself. For yourself, use words like '存じている' (zonjite iru).

Watch out: Do not use ご存じだ about yourself. It is a polite word for others. For example, do not say はい、ご存じです. This means 'Yes, I know' in a very polite way. But you are being polite to yourself. Instead, say はい、存じております. This is the humble way to say 'Yes, I know'.
