This phrase has two uses. It can mean 'through' or 'by' something. Like using the internet. It can also mean 'all through' a time. Like all through the year.

This is like 〜を通して. But 〜を通じて is more formal. You use it in writing or speeches. 〜を通して can mean going physically through something. 〜を通じて almost never means this. It always means an idea or a time. 〜にわたって talks about how far something spreads. 〜を通じて talks about something happening all the way through a time. Or it talks about using something as a way to do things.

Don't use this when you physically go through something. For example, you can't say "through the window" with this word.
