    FormalNon PastAffirmativePrenominalObligationHistoryMilitary

This phrase is very old. It sounds like a strict rule. It is much stronger than saying "you should not do this." It means something is absolutely forbidden. It is like a law that cannot be broken.

This grammar is different from "〜べからず". This one always comes before a noun. It describes the noun. "〜べからず" ends a sentence. It is a direct command. It means "Do not do this."

Don't use this when you talk with friends. For example, don't say "これは食べるべからざるものだ" (kore wa taberu bekarazaru mono da) to mean "This is not allowed to eat" in a casual chat. This phrase is very formal. You only use it in writing. Or in very formal speeches. Using it daily sounds strange. It might sound old-fashioned. Or like you are trying too hard.
