Transitive verbs show someone doing something to an object. For example, "I open the window." Intransitive verbs show something happening by itself. For example, "The window opens." No one is doing it. This is important for other grammar rules.

Watch out: Many students use the wrong particle. You use 「を」 for the thing the verb acts on. For example, say 「パンを食べる」 (eat bread). Do not say 「パンが食べる」. 「が」 shows who does the action. 「を」 shows what gets the action.

Use this when you want to show who did something to what. It tells you who caused an action. It also shows what was changed by that action. This helps you tell a clear story.
