Imagine 'で' as a stage. It shows where something happens. It works even if no one is 'doing' anything there.

The particle "で" shows where you do something. The particle "に" shows where something is, or where you go. For example, you use "で" for "I read a book at the library." You use "に" for "There is a book in the library."

Watch out: Do not use "de" with verbs like "go" or "come." These verbs show movement to a place. For movement, always use "ni" or "e." For example, say "gakkou ni iku" (go to school). Do not say "gakkou de iku."
