    This grammar shows where information comes from. It also shows the situation your sentence is about. Think of it like a spotlight. It shines on the part of the world you are talking about.

    This is different from 「〜によると」. 「〜によると」 means 'according to'. It is for who said something. 「〜では」 is for where you heard it. For example, 'in the news'. You cannot use 「〜では」 for a person. You must say 'in Tanaka's story'.

    Don't use this when you talk about a person. For people, use "〜によると." For example, you cannot say "田中さんでは." You must say "田中さんによると."

    You use this when you tell someone what you heard from another person. It means 'I heard that...' or 'They say that...'.
