PoliteNon PastAffirmativeMid SentenceDeclarativeNature & EnvironmentHome & Housing

This pattern shows two things changing together. It's like when you see the sun go down, the sky gets dark. One change just happens with the other. No one makes it happen on purpose.

This is like '〜にしたがって'. They are often the same. But '〜につれて' is for changes that happen naturally. Think of seasons changing. '〜にしたがって' can sound more formal. It can also mean following rules, which '〜につれて' does not.

Don't use this when something happens very fast. For example, you cannot say "As the door opened, he came in." This is for slow changes. The change must go in one direction. It cannot go up and down.
