This form is for casual talk. It is different from the polite form. The polite form adds 'です' at the end. You use the polite form with people you do not know well. You also use it with people who are above you.
Watch out: Do not add "だった" to make い-adjectives past tense. This is wrong. You change the end of the word. For example, say "楽しかった" (tanoshikatta). Do not say "楽しいだった" (tanoshii datta).
Don't use this when you want to say "good" in the past. You should say "yokatta" not "ikatta".
